We aren’t senile and we remember how you treat the other sex.
Charles Gibson of ABC News was out for blood and inherently applied a double-standard compared with the kid gloves George Stephanopoulos used on Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois on Sunday night.
Gibson was out to embarrass Palin and expose her presumed ignorance from the word go. By contrast, when Obama referred to his “Muslim faith” on Sunday and did not correct himself, Stephanopoulos rushed in at once to help him and emphasize that the senator had really meant to say his Christian faith.
By contrast, Gibson tried to embarrass Palin by referring to her Christian faith in asking people to pray for U.S. soldiers in Iraq. Palin countered by pointing out she was following the precedent set by Abraham Lincoln.
The double-standard Gibson applied to Palin, compared with the uncritical media platforms repeatedly offered to Obama, who has had zero executive experience running anything, was especially striking. ABC and Gibson focused on Palin as if she were running right now for the presidency rather than the vice presidency. He and other media pundits, by contrast, have never asked the Democratic vice presidential nominee, Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, if he has ever had to make a decision on anything.
Ok, I did not call it an interview because I truly believe that Charlie Gibson is an ass. Strong, yes. I don’t care if Gov. Palin is grilled, barbequed and served with butter or frijoles as long as every other candidate is treated the same.
The Anchoress has a list of questions posed by Gibson to Barack Obama three months ago, who has far less experience on foreign policy than Palin and NO executive experience.
You be the judge:
Obama interview:
How does it feel to break a glass ceiling?
How does it feel to “win”?
How does your family feel about your “winning” breaking a glass ceiling?
Who will be your VP?
Should you choose Hillary Clinton as VP?
Will you accept public finance?
What issues is your campaign about?
Will you visit Iraq?
Will you debate McCain at a town hall?
What did you think of your competitor’s [Clinton] speech?Palin interview:
Do you have enough qualifications for the job you’re seeking? Specifically have you visited foreign countries and met foreign leaders?
Aren’t you conceited to be seeking this high level job?
Questions about foreign policy
-territorial integrity of Georgia
-allowing Georgia and Ukraine to be members of NATO
-NATO treaty
-Iranian nuclear threat
-what to do if Israel attacks Iran
-Al Qaeda motivations
-the Bush Doctrine
-attacking terrorists harbored by Pakistan
Is America fighting a holy war? [misquoted Palin]

This is quite a different interview. Quite a statement on Mr. Gibson’s interrogation of Gov. Palin.
I am disgusted by what the media perceives as equality in interviewing. I realize that this woman has to stand strong as she is the first Republican female candidate for VP, and expectations are running high. I just cannot understand why the media is in the tank for Obama. Afterall, she is running as a vice president candidate. Someone, please alert the media! Why the media persists on John McCain kicking the bucket is ludicrous. His mother is well into her 90’s. His cancer is a skin cancer which is closely surveilled.
Let’s face it, the 18,000,000 cracks are in the ceiling (thank you HRC), but we are going to have to jackhammer through it because it is concrete not glass.
John Edwards, remember him? His interview questions:
GIBSON: You speak with such equanimity this morning. Didn’t they make you mad last night?
EDWARDS: Oh, I thought they were over the top, completely over the top. And, and actually what bothered me more than anything was in the midst of -I mean, there was, if you, if you got up and went to your refrigerator to get a Diet Coke, you would -you would miss everything Dick Cheney had to say about health care and everything he had to say about jobs. I mean, this is the first, we’ve had 11 straight presidents in this country, Charlie, who have created jobs. This is, until George Bush. You know, we’ve got all these folks who are having trouble with their health care premiums going up, 26, 27 hundred dollars, and what do they have to say about it? Nothing. I mean, don’t people deserve to know from their president and vice president what it is they’ve done and what it is they’re going to do? And instead, all we hear is a lot of rhetoric about, about their opponent. I mean, I just think leaders in this country, the American people deserve leaders who are better than that and do better than that.
GIBSON: Did you get mad, though?
EDWARDS: Oh, yeah. I was, I was, especially about the personal attacks against John Kerry, because they’re false. I know this guy and I know what he’s made of inside and he’s ready to lead this country.
Update: Newsbusters takes a look at the full transcript and finds some interesting answers left out of the broadcast portions of the interview.
I detect a pattern here, don’t you?
Just a note: When you have problems because you made a severe error in judgement and scrubbed a passage, why can’t the media own up to it. Please read as it will also make you think twice about what these interrogators do when they research their material. http://patterico.com/2008/09/12/la-times-writer-botches-palin-prayer-follows-gibsons-example-and-sends-the-embarrassing-passage-down-the-memory-hole/
She will get better, because she HAS to. http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=Y2VlNThlZGMzMDBiY2M2OTZhYmExMDQ1OWY5ZTgxNDA=
The Post is correct when it asserts that taking in your own camera will keep the media honest on these interviews. http://www.nypost.com/seven/09132008/postopinion/opedcolumnists/bring_your_own_camera_128856.htm
