While the early analog-cutoff of 421 TV stations on Feb. 17 has gone relative smoothly according to most reports, that was not the case of at least one Missouri man, according to KARE-TV Minneapolis-ST. Paul.
The station reports that a 70-year-old Joplin man was arrested and charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm after shooting his TV set.
It was his TV afterall.
Responding to a report of shots being fired, the station reported, the police found the man angry that he had both lost his cable and had been unable to get his new DTV converter box to work.
After renewed calls for negotiations between NYU officials and student body protesters after a night of intense rioting, those who were still barricaded in the college cafeteria Friday have finally ended their sit-in protest.
Though the number of student activists holed up inside the third floor cafeteria had dwindled to less than two dozen since Wednesday night, those still engaged remained defiant until the end.
Must have been hard without a bathroom. And for what?
The students wanted NYU to release information on its budget and endowment, including staff salaries and financial aid. The students also wanted the university to release its investment strategy and the names of the people and firms involved in it.
“We have given them countless opportunities to look us in the face and talk about the way our school is run,” Stainkamp said. “They refuse to do this, except on their terms.”
Gov. Bobby Jindal said today that the state will reject up to $98 million in federal relief for unemployed workers because it could lead to a tax increases on businesses.
Jindal, who has emerged as a leading critic of the $787 billion economic stimulus bill signed into law by President Barack Obama earlier this week, said the state would accept the federal dollars being offered for transportation projects, along with a $25 per week increase in unemployment benefits.
Kudos to Gov. Jindal. On the right track. Of course, he will be labeled a racist (as one commentary states on HotAir). Unfortunately, the racist label won’t work for Gov. Jindal. He is afterall, not WHITE.
Gov. Jindal gets the last laugh. Let’s hope this sets a precedent.
They are crying because they can’t get a pee break. Give me a break children.
But their No. 1 demand was this: “Full legal and disciplinary amnesty for all parties involved in the occupation.”
A cop eyed the crowd and shook his head.
“It’s pathetic,” he said. “These are privileged kids. These kids have silver spoons in their mouths, and their parents send them here – so they can sit in the cafeteria.”
