Another glorious malware turd to watch out for as it deploys on April 1, 2009.
So they say? Don’t take chances although some folks think it is bunk.
If you’re using a Windows PC, wise up and make sure your anti-virus software is up to date, because the “Conficker” worm is preparing to do … something.
Are you infected already? Perhaps you have the malware lurking within your pc already.
Point your browser towards f-secure.com, secureworks.com, microsoft.com or other security sites. If you get a “page cannot be displayed” error for all the sites, there’s a good chance they’re blocked by Conficker or similar malware on your PC.
If that happens to you, you’d also be blocked from normally downloading free Conficker removal tools. But you can get around the malware blocks by using a Web proxy or alternate download links, according to Stewart. Here are some links:
You don’t want to find yourself looking like this on April 1, 2009.

Hi,
Good article. Sophos’ Conficker removal tool can detect and remove all variants of the worm/virus.
As long as people run these tools it should stop any serious outbreak.

Conficker.A and Conficker.B can both be removed using free software like F-Secure’s Downadup removal software as well as bdtools which was made just for this. However Conficker.C has to be removed manually still. In just another day a fix will be made for it. You can view the Microsoft site for more information on how to remove this manually.

I’ve heard from multiple sources that the Conficker worm won’t be a threat to Mac users, thank goodness
