Jewish fundamentalists storm al-Aqsa Mosque.
More than 200 Jewish extremists have reportedly entered al-Aqsa Mosque, positioning themselves inside the holy site, allegedly to perform religious rituals.
According to a statement released by the Al-Aqsa Foundation for Endowment and Heritage, the incursion was “significant”. The foundation has called on Muslims, Arabs and all Palestinians to take action in support of the mosque.
This is NOT good. No doubt in my mind that this will not end well. YIKES!
Thanks Nom.

Geez, did you read the comments in that link?? Are we living in the dark ages or what? Yeah right, we’re suppose to sit down and talk and negotiate with these nuts? It would be easier to hop in a DeLorean, go back to 500 BC and stop all the fighting before it happens and they have 2,000 years to sulk about it.

Yes, it is unnerving to say the least.

The taking of the mosque is surely provoking, but the Israelis have taken the mosque and or its yards several other times post 1967; actually I find the killing of the pine tree near the mosque this week (and the injury & death of several other ancient cedars and pines recently) far more alarming: excavation has apparently killed its root system. The attempts to bring down both Al Aqsa and the dome of the Rock by undermining them under the guise of searching for historic kingly burials will succeed one day.
But, this works both ways: the waqf has built in the Solomon Stables and undermined the Southern Wall and also destroyed jewish antiquities and has built the el Marwani mosque in an area that has historically been empty claiming that there used to be a mosque there. They are certainly not blameless either.
What is perplexing is the lack of coverage.

PCHR Weekly Report says: “At approximately 07:45 on Wednesday, 29 July 2009, some Jewish groups entered the yards of the al-Aqsa Mosques. At 09:30, at least 200 Israeli settlers, escorted by the Israeli police broke into the yards of the al-Aqsa Mosue. [sic] They conducted Jewish ceremonies in various areas in the yards. Such storm was unprecedented and it coincided with the anniversary of the destruction of the so-called temple. The settlers were allowed to enter the yards of the Holy Sanctuary in spite of the presence of many Palestinian civilians and in spite of prior warnings.”

This report states that only the yards of the mosque were entered, a huge difference from the first one: that might still be a violation of the Israeli agreement with the waqf, but no where near as provocative.
Just a guess, but perhaps the settlers were protesting the negotiations between the PA and Israel that include the disposition of the Temple Mount (placing it under the authority of an international muslim body)?

Nom, this is a protest, but a very dangerous protest. I realize that Israel does not want to be told to stand down, but this is bordering on suicide.

Sounds like the coverage issue is hush hush for a reason Nom. Intel might have a disaster waiting for a reason to strike?
