A terror bomber who served 18 years in federal prison will be allowed to speak at the University of Massachusetts on Thursday — after his speech had been canceled — because a group of faculty members decided to invite him and the university maintains it must fulfill its commitment to “academic freedom.”
Raymond Luc Levasseur, the former leader of the revolutionary group United Freedom Front, was released from federal prison in 2004 after serving 18 years for his role in the group, which plotted a series of bombings and bank robberies along the East Coast between 1976 and 1984.

Why aren’t universities seeking speakers of academic value? Why are they legitimizing terrorists?
November 10, 2009 at 5:33 PM
That is what the left does in the world of academia. I know, I taught for 26 years.
November 10, 2009 at 5:28 PM
Oh, I see now, it’s Massachusetts.
November 10, 2009 at 5:33 PM
Especially MA.
November 10, 2009 at 8:05 PM
Yes!
Mass.!
And next week they’re having Ted Kennedy speak on Health Care down under………

This guy’s group killed a New Jersey state trooper and tried to kill two others in another state. Why don’t they go ahead and extend an invitation to that POS Hasan Nadal and add Obama for a roundtable discussion on not jumping to conclusions about certain terrorists.
These schools make me sick with their warped idea of freedom of speech. What are the odds that they would invite members of the Klan or other right-wing hate groups “in the interest of fairness”.
November 10, 2009 at 5:34 PM
Wac, I think you and I are going to see another beer summit.
November 10, 2009 at 5:34 PM
I wouldn’t mind seeing David Duke on the invite list to be fair.

Just click on the link and look at the guy’s tee shirt, and you’ll see emblazoned on it … PALESTINE.
You have to ask yourself how it is that Arabs thousands of miles away have been effectively used as a rallying point for someone who has a grievance that they wish to express by way of random acts of violence.
Alas, the result terrorism is to further the interest of the military-industrial complex in the West and also to deflect attention away from the corruption in Islamic countries. Confusing otherwise docile religious individuals with sexually repressive propaganda is a very well known PR technique, whose sole intent is to keep the status quo in power.
November 10, 2009 at 6:22 PM
I saw that. Disgust is the only emotion that relieves me at this time.
November 10, 2009 at 6:33 PM
Obama is going to avoid this topic like a hot potato. He has no interest whatsoever in calling out terrorists because this only serves to undermine the PR campaign that keeps him in power, while covering for the status quo…
Who would’ve thunk it that political correctness and terrorism are two sides of the same coin – but they are, at least in the eyes of the propagandists and their lackeys in the corporate media….
November 10, 2009 at 6:49 PM
Agreed.
November 10, 2009 at 7:21 PM
They may have “academic freedom” but they also have donors. One hopes this goes on to bite them in the ass.
November 10, 2009 at 7:24 PM
And I am hoping that each one of those donors makes a statement with their donations.

I hear that Colorado is slashing higher education’s budgets by 40%.
Colorado state government says they may rid themselves of the Colorado university system by making it private – they just can’t afford it in this
Obama Depression.
Anyone else hear anything about this?

Found it.
Budget cuts could end funding for higher ed
Gov. Bill Ritter is asking for spending cuts so deep the idea of ending state funding for colleges and universities is back on the table.
Talk of layoffs and eliminating programs considered less essential to public health and safety also followed Ritter’s call Tuesday for department heads to trim budgets by 10 percent to cope with plunging state revenues.
Ritter’s request, which came four days after the nonpartisan Legislative Council forecast budget shortfalls that could total $1 billion this year and next, seeks $790 million of possible cuts by Jan. 9.
