Arpaio Blasts McCain’s “Liberal” Policies.
Maricopa Co. Sheriff Joe Arpaio is urging GOPers to shelve Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in favor of ex-Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R), a challenger attacking from the right, in a new letter sent to primary voters.
“Senator McCain has served this country admirably but it’s time to replace his moderate or even liberal positions on taxes, the border, social causes and big bank bailouts with a consistent conservative like J.D.,” Arpaio writes in the letter. “”I just wish Senator McCain had run as hard against Barack Obama as he is against a conservative like J.D. That could have prevented the harmful, liberal agenda we are all now suffering through.”
The Phoenix city council slammed their constituents with a 2% tax on food items a few weeks ago. They can’t keep up with the needs of the state. It was only a matter of time before someone like Sheriff Joe would call McCain out.
Joe is not a bad guy. La Raza hates him because he actually enforces the law.

Gosh…I was in the middle of a comment and my computer kicked me off. I have the feeling my computer has it’s own political views. Creepy.
I was saying that I don’t know who this guy Hayworth is or what his political history or policies are, so it’s hard to say whether he would be better or worse than McCain. I have the feeling that just about an incumbent will be in big trouble in the next election.
Did your read the link over at Quipster’s blog that showed the unemployment rates, the number of people who are applying for food stamps, etc.? This country is in a lot worse shape than many realize and to be honest, it’s freakin’ me out. I think my husband and I will be ok, but I worry about my kids. In fact, I was talking to my husband about a year ago about possibly selling our house and downsizing because it’s much to big for us now that the kids are gone. But I think we should just keep it in case one or more of them end up moving back home because they can’t make it on their own.
We have one daughter in PA who may end up here with her two kids this summer if she can’t find a teaching job for the fall. She currently has over 600 applications out in the Boston area and Chicago area. For every teaching position open, there are approx. 150 applicants. She has enough experience that it means she would get a higher pay (union rules) but that also means she will be put aside if a school is in a tight budget and only hires new teachers for lower pay. Something tells me that we are going to have a houseful soon.

I hear you. I am not going to do anything in the next few years until some stabilization of the economy occurs. It’ is easier to take on the extra what ifs and just in case problems this way.
I have relatives in AZ and they were okay with John McCain. Now, the attitude is different. That 2% tax on food sent them over the edge. AZ will NOT fight to secure the border. The state is heavily burdened by illegal immigration (poor economy means more competition for less jobs). They built tons of schools. Now, many are leaving, the schools are closing and the bills for all that was built must be paid. The taxpayer is now being handed the tab. It is ugly Nunly, really ugly. DHS Janet Napolitano is one of those people who should be fired for what she did in the state and what she is doing now.

in NC there is a 2% tax on all grocery food (this is the 2% local tax without the 5.75% state tax on it, but all areas have the local tax), but there is a 7.75% tax on meals, such as restaurant, hotel, or fast food. Pet food is not considered food: it is also taxed at 7.75%. Supplements such as protein bars are also not considered food: they are also taxed at 7.75%, however sugar-laden kids’ cereals with added vitamins are deemed to be food and are taxed at 2%. (they do of course cost about $4 a freaking box, which ought to be enough of a deterrent, one supposes).

AZ demographics are different. They also have had a huge flood of Californians that relocated without the jobs in the last 10 years. They will be looking like California soon. I couldn’t live in NC unless I had JE’s $$$. That’s some taxing Nom. How do you do it if you have a lot of kids and single?
February 12, 2010 at 8:27 am
yes we’ve got a sh#tload of the goddamn californians and new yorkers both here driving up people like my taxes
February 12, 2010 at 10:03 am
Yes, I remember you said that the real estate was shooting through the roof. It happened in AZ and now you can’t dump the houses because people aren’t willing to buy.

“How do you do it if you have a lot of kids and single?”
You don’t: you lose your house as you slide into poverty and or leave if you can.
All these godd#mn out of state transplants with their hoards of money have made the cost of living here skyrocket and given the local government delusions of grandeur. There’s now a freaking “fee” (tax) for everything under the sun and bonds for all their godd&mn projects to give the rich transplants their precious extravagant amenities. They won’t f%cking stop until they’ve cut down every tree in the state and put a f*cking strip mall on every goddamn corner.
lol, did I say I don’t like these people?

There is a very special place for the people that make these decisions in Hell.

did either of you read the Bob Herbert column on unemployment? here’s the link: It’s entitled “The Worst of the Pain”

This link is very interesting on how the numbers are being fudged. No one talks about those numbers where all benefits have run out or are never sought to begin with. Some people take several part time jobs and forget about the hand outs. They just keep working for less and hope that the part time work stays steady.
Thanks for that link. Yes, the bottom always gets slammed the worse. It is ugly. Believe me when I tell you that I am witness to it firsthand.

So we have the
“Willie Wonka” economy because all the numbers are FUDGE.
February 10, 2010 at 2:03 pm
Yes, it is nice to know that they take the economy so seriously.

they are definitely packing in the fudge
