The New Poor – Despite Signs of Recovery, Long-Term Unemployment Rises.
Even as the American economy shows tentative signs of a rebound, the human toll of the recession continues to mount, with millions of Americans remaining out of work, out of savings and nearing the end of their unemployment benefits.
Call them the new poor: people long accustomed to the comforts of middle-class life who are now relying on public assistance for the first time in their lives — potentially for years to come.
Wow, that’s some recovery. Is it just me that thinks government is broken?
Americans overwhelmingly think that the government in this country is broken, according to a new national poll. But the CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey, released Sunday morning, also indicates that the public overwhelmingly holds out hope that what’s broken can be fixed. Eighty-six percent of people questioned in the poll say that our system of government is broken, with 14 percent saying no. Of that 86 percent, 81 percent say that the government can be fixed, with 5 percent saying it’s beyond repair.

just like foreclosures are on the down turn- uh huh, sure- it’s just like the unemployment numbers- so many people have already lost their homes they have fallen out of the numbers.

And how is it that our government is going to be fixed? By voting in the same people who broke it to begin with? That seems to be the plan so far.

It is a very lousy plan….we need new blood with bold, useful ideas!!

The problem arises when people step forward. Neither party is going to change.

Our government IS broken and it has nothing to do with whether you are Repub or Dem. Whichever party is in charge, the other fights it tooth and nail. It’s a lose-lose situation and the American people pay the price so that the political pundits can rise. Time did a very good article on this lately.

Yes, I used that article as a link on a comment elsewhere. It is VERY broken, and certainly not what the Founding Fathers intended.

What the founding fathers thought or intended doesn’t seem to resonate with the current crop of ass clowns…except maybe Robert Byrd.

I am weary. I don’t know when it will stop. I don’t understand why they won’t stop even though they hear us fuming.

I am guessing because they have never really been held accountable. It is going to take a whole lotta action on the part of the people to get through to them…I think we should consider opening up a Pitchfork & Torch Rental Center….
