In Letter III of his Letters From an America Farmer (1782), J. Hector St. John De Crevecoeur famously asked: “What then is the American, this new man?” He answered: “He is an American, who, leaving behind him all his ancient prejudices and manners, receives new ones from the new mode of life he has embraced, the new government he obeys, and the new rank he holds. He has become an American by being received in the broad lap of our great Alma Mater. Here individuals of all races are melted into a new race of man, whose labors and posterity will one day cause great changes in the world. Americans are the western pilgrims.”
Fully one-quarter of the space on this year’s form is taken up with questions of race and ethnicity, which are clearly illegitimate and none of the government’s business (despite the New York Times’ assurances to the contrary on today’s editorial page). So until we succeed in building the needed wall of separation between race and state, I have a proposal. …[W]e should answer Question 9 by checking the last option — “Some other race” — and writing in “American.” It’s a truthful answer but at the same time is a way for ordinary citizens to express their rejection of unconstitutional racial classification schemes. In fact, “American” was the plurality ancestry selection for respondents to the 2000 census in four states and several hundred counties.
For the record, I am an American.

We have not yet received a census form- and I am NOT answering any race questions-
Name Rank and serial number- that’s it!
March 9, 2010 at 11:02 am
Ridiculous what they want to know.
March 9, 2010 at 11:10 am
$500 fine if you give false answers- people showing up at your door to harass you- supposedly “private” the census takers are sworn to confidentiality- SURE they are- betcha Acorn goes through every one and checks to make sure the monorities are “evenly” represented.
I am willing to bet, right here and now, that when the data comes out- there will be a huge increase in the AA population from the 12% and a corresponding decrease in the population of those of white european descent.
Adn the gerrymadering of districts? Watch- states lose reps in red counties and gain in blue inner city. Red states of course will lose the most reps.
Remind me when they start coming around- I am moving the dog to right under the rhodedenron by the front door.
March 9, 2010 at 11:57 am
Privacy my arse PMM. No such thing. Yes, there will be huge increases for those areas with large minority populations including illegal immigrants.
March 9, 2010 at 11:05 am
For a nation whose people are supposed to leave behind their ancient prejudices and manners, the MSM comes along and bitterly divides them…
The Census Form is simply the physical manifestation of the main course of avarice being served after decades of spine-tingling hors d’oeuvres of lust and greed…
Teasingly just out of reach of the American, this desire to sit at the table and break bread with these evildoers is overwhelmed by the unique human gift of simply choosing the path of history – the tiny voice one calls the conscience – a innate knowledge of what is right versus what is wrong…
This type of historical revisionism is for sale everywhere you see today. The worst kind of it exists in the form of worshiping that which is external and unattainable rather than a gift from God almighty, with which everyone is born and a large part of which is in fact simply being an American…
Serious work ahead for the Kool-Aid generation… Lots of undoing to do…
March 9, 2010 at 11:59 am
The question is when will they get to work NNIC? I feel like I am in a battle for life each waking moment of the day.
March 10, 2010 at 1:23 pm
A good start would be for them to get out of their mama’s basement!
For good!
March 9, 2010 at 12:14 pm
The question is…is Obama an American?
I think I’ll just check off male AND female. They’ll never know what’s under this Habit! The fools! Bwahahahahahhaha!
March 9, 2010 at 12:16 pm

The list was getting pretty long. I wasn’t even half way through the options on Google translate. I am putting a link back to you with the comprehensive list from GT on my “but seriously” blog.
March 9, 2010 at 2:33 pm
Thank you for sending this out.
March 9, 2010 at 1:41 pm
I’m an American.
And the descendant of white European “scalywags”…is that an option on the census form?
There’s nothing worse than to be a male, white, European descendant today.
Everybody, I mean EVERYBODY else has got rights…do I sound like I’m whining?
Yeah, pretty much:<)!
March 9, 2010 at 2:00 pm

March 9, 2010 at 4:15 pm
You don’t sound like a white boy anymore.
March 9, 2010 at 2:35 pm
No, you aren’t whining.
I once heard someone state that they were a mongrel because they became quite flustered answering this question on a form. I thought that was a fine classification.

March 9, 2010 at 8:40 pm
Well,I’m going to do my part and give somebody a job, even if temporary, by waiting for someone to come to my door.
BTW McN,I stopped in to drop off this link in case you hadn’t heard. Now what is that theory about the machine traveling back in time to sabotoge itself to prevent it’s own destruction via the black hole it creates. Something like that. Nothing like the smell of human generated dark matter brewing in the morning.

I agree Swell528, we should give everyone who needs work the opportunity to work the census. I will do my part and not answer the questionaire so that someone can visit me.
Hotdog! There is absolutely nothing like the smell of human generated dark matter brewing in the morning. I’m guessing the new target date will be 2012.
“recreate the conditions in the moments after the Big Bang.”
I want to know why this is a must do? All I see and hear is a lot of mental masturbation. A bit like HAARP.
March 9, 2010 at 11:59 pm
I said a year ago that after the census, blacks, who are about 18% of the population will amazingly become over 30%.
March 10, 2010 at 7:22 am
I don’t know Mary, La Raza is trying to pull a big one. I think that the number of whites in this country will shrink to a minutia when the census numbers are finalized. Yes, all minority numbers will become highly inflated.
March 10, 2010 at 1:27 pm
La Raza–the Hispanic version of Nation of Islam.
March 10, 2010 at 2:46 pm
Don’t forget to add MECHA.
March 10, 2010 at 1:26 pm
More like 81% Mary.
March 10, 2010 at 1:30 pm
Buttered,
TV and many Sunday supplement ads already show blacks at close to 50%. Just another little reminder of Big Business for oilsoc.

Is there a slot to put, “American frustrated by current political agenda” ?

It’s a write in.

March 14, 2010 at 2:42 pm
some are suggesting to check the box marked “other” and write in American.
any comments??
March 14, 2010 at 3:30 pm
Well Ted, that is another option that seems quite valid.
March 16, 2010 at 11:51 am
I could be completely wrong, but the terms race, nationality, and ethnicity seem to be interchangeable on the 2010 census form despite the fact that they have different definitions according to Webster’s. I took offense that my race was labeled as “WHITE.” My race is Caucasian, not a color. My nationality is American and my ethnicity is German and Irish. Why can’t the government get the definitions correct? Are they “dumbing down” the terms because not everyone know what a Caucasian is?

In a word, yes.
Welcome penjnolan.
March 16, 2010 at 12:07 pm
This was one only site I found where the topic was being discussed. Thank you for allowing me to be able to voice my opinion.
March 16, 2010 at 1:31 pm
You are very welcome. Great point, what does color have to do with anything labeled race.
March 16, 2010 at 3:33 pm
My boyfriend is Puerto Rican, so the “Origin” question was easy to check. The Census claims that Spanish and Hispanic’s are not races. Both his parents are Puerto Rican. We called the Census number and the recording says something like: choose a race that closely relates to yours. I think they want Hispanic’s to choose either white or black. He will most likely leave the “Race” question blank. OMG.
March 16, 2010 at 5:51 pm
Greets JaxAngel. How can you determine race? If you are an islander from Cuban descent, are you black or hispanic? One implies color of skin.
March 16, 2010 at 5:51 pm
It is a stupid question.
March 19, 2010 at 9:09 pm
I filled the thing out today. In addition to race, age, and status regarding home ownership, it also asked a nosy question about the relationship of the people living in the house: I listed my man as “unmarried partner”. But really, why is this being asked? I cannot imagine how it is relevant.
March 20, 2010 at 7:40 am
I can’t imagine why that would be relevant either. IMO there are too many questions that really don’t have much to do with anything.
March 21, 2010 at 2:12 pm
anyone notice that the ONLY legal question is in the top box BY ITSELF?? the other (optional) questions are in a box below. hhmmm….

March 29, 2010 at 9:08 pm
Recently, I found the 2010 Census form hanging on my door. As I began filling it out, I came across a dilemma. The U.S. government wants to know if my children are adopted or not and it wants to know what our races are. Being adopted myself, I had to put “Other” and “Don’t Know Adopted” for my race and “Other” and “Don’t Know” for my kids’ races.
Can you imagine not knowing your ethnicity, your race? Now imagine walking into a vital records office and asking the clerk for your original birth certificate only to be told “No, you can’t have it, it’s sealed.”
How about being presented with a “family history form” to fill out at every single doctor’s office visit and having to put “N/A Adopted” where life saving information should be?
Imagine being asked what your nationality is and having to respond with “I don’t know”.
It is time that the archaic practice of sealing and altering birth certificates of adopted persons stops.
Adoption is a 5 billion dollar, unregulated industry that profits from the sale and redistribution of children. It turns children into chattel who are re-labeled and sold as “blank slates”.
Genealogy, a modern-day fascination, cannot be enjoyed by adopted persons with sealed identities. Family trees are exclusive to the non-adopted persons in our society.
If adoption is truly to return to what is best for a child, then the rights of children to their biological identities should NEVER be violated. Every single judge that finalizes an adoption and orders a child’s birth certificate to be sealed should be ashamed of him/herself.
I challenge all readers: Ask the adopted persons that you know if their original birth certificates are sealed.
March 30, 2010 at 8:55 am
Your situation is difficult Mara. The imposition that one is place when adopted is very hard. Your medical history is a blank as well. It is something that we, who do have BCs take for granted quite easily.
