The administration has reached out to NCLR about its concerns and those of Hispanic lawmakers — promising, among other things, to seriously tackle the broader topic of immigration reform after the health care debate is over. But the White House has affirmed that health care reform should not be amended to include undocumented immigrants, though possible exceptions should be made for their children.
“The argument that everyone should support health care reform because it’s for the “greater good” has given national leaders an excuse to brush off the concerns of the most disenfranchised and vulnerable communities that desperately need results,” writes Ng’andu. “Latinos engaged in health care reform have not only been asked to sweep critical health care priorities under the rug, but also to swallow measures that would harm vulnerable immigrant families and their children. If this is what we can expect from our lawmakers and political leaders, we ought to take pause. We cannot forget for whom and for what we have been fighting since the beginning of this debate.”
via Nation’s Largest Hispanic Advocacy Group Opposes Reform As Is. Who will enforce this mess if this passes? Sheriff Arpaio in Arizona can’t get a break. It’s racist to deport smugglers, human trafficking cretins, etc. If he can’t do his job, what makes anyone believe that the Federal government will be able to?
Critics say Arpaio’s deputies have racially profiled Hispanics. The sheriff says deputies approach people only when they have probable cause to believe people have committed crimes.

Not for anything, but the illegal aliens are the reason so many hospitals have folded. They use them for their doctor’s visits, have no money, never pay, stay in the hospital, get well, never pay, and this is one huge reason our premiums go up. We are paying for the illegal aliens. Frankly, I think they SHOULD be included, not as an entitlement, but as premium paying customers. At least they would be kicking some money in for their own care, even if it’s on a sliding scale. This is one major reason this reform is useless. Without everyone on board, you and I both know that the uninsured who have no assets will continue to use hospitals for their doctor visits and by law, they will continue to get care that somebody has to pay for. That would be you and me. This is food for thought. Continuing on as-is is costing the rest of us dearly.

I understand what you are saying. I am all for everyone paying their share. This monster is making everyone very uncomfortable. I cannot see how we can do with without dropping the quality of care that we currently have because there have been no explanations to address certain details.
I have many reservations about this. Will the illegal population pay, even if forced? Call me skeptical, but I have to ask how? This population lives in the shadows. The penalty to not purchase into the system is high for citizens. Will the non citizens be excused for not purchasing insurance because their pay is not sufficient to pay into the system? Will the penalty be the same for those who are not citizens? How will all of this be enforced? Frankly, they can easily run away and leave the tab unpaid. It happens all the time.
Many have been conditioned to use the ER for primary care. Insurance is very much a foreign concept for many. They know the law, which means that they will never be turned away in need. Why should they change?
It is a huge problem. I will feel a bit more comfortable when some of these important details are addressed. There is no easy answer.

You said it mcnorman. Why would illegal aliens submit their info to the federal government, and in many cases be forced to admit that they are using phony or stolen documents to be here. They cannot be turned away from an emergency room. They won’t buy health insurance just like they won’t buy auto insurance. Why the “unnecessary” expense?

I don’t see this population abiding by the law. Take a look at car insurance. In our state, if you are deemed “too poor” to pay, you get a walk on a sliding fee. I have no problem with that, but 99.9% of this group never pay.
I have been hit by 5 uninsured drivers. The last one was driving a brand new Ford F150. He hit my old Ford Bronco truck that my ex was in going 70+mph. The ex was at a stop. No insurance, illegally here. Dumps that truck, cries poor, no restitution. My bill, my ex is permanently disabled. He has undergone multiple spinal injuries. My truck was totaled (the passenger side door was sitting up against the driver side). Apology, none. Hospital bills, mine. Purchase of another vehicle, mine. The kid never paid any of the tickets. Enforcement to make any type of reparation, none. I don’t see how this could be enforced. The law that was usurped when they came to this country illegally has not been enforced. I can’t see health insurance being enforced on any non citizen.
It is being reported that 16,500 more IRS agents will be needed to enforce ObamaCrapCare.

I had a car which broke down along the highway and before I could get it towed, a bunch of (mexican and black) gang bangers broke into it to steal the stereo etc, found there was nothing of value and totaled my car by smashing it with bats. they were caught by the cops down the road totaling some more cars. I won in court: but they didn’t pay. nothing was ever done to them. I spent 2 years walking over 20 miles a day until I got a new (used) car. that was 5+ hours a day walking out of the 16 or so awake for 2 freaking years.
the car that replaced it was totaled by an uninsured and unlicensed due to dui (mexican) driver. we were waiting to turn off an exit ramp; in addition to not stopping at all and crashing into us, he then tried to push our car out into traffic (he had a large new suv and we had a little car). his girlfriend split with their drugs and the cops didn’t bother to catch the little (white) slut. thankfully, we were not either seriously hurt. the cost of repair was higher than the value of the car, but I couldn’t afford a new car, so I had it repaired anyhow although it was never the same. guess who paid?
people like this–criminals and freeloaders– never pay. frankly, they ought to be taken out and shot and then hung as warnings to similar criminals and freeloaders along the freaking highway.

Not all people are scum. Obviously, you have had some luck. Perhaps we should play the lottery since the numbers keep coming up peachy king?

“Not all people are scum.”
but it is a high percentage, lol.
I am lucky because I was not seriously or permanently injured or dead. I don’t like to think what could have happened to all my cats if I had been.

If everyone else is going to pay the premium costs for those here illegally because they live in the shadows but utilize social services freely (costs get passed on to consumers at every level either direct or indirect, and we all do end up paying whether we like it or not – get ready to pay a little more for each fast food meal, each roll of toilet paper, and so forth and so on), then there is no incentive to pay into the system like everyone else.

I can’t see any of this being enforced. Who will be able to collect from shadow people? When La Raza can answer these questions, I will be listening.
