It is meaningful when 70 per cent of AZ likely voters are in favor of the bill. Maybe people who do not live there and do not live and pay for the ramifications of unbridled illegal immigrants living in their state, should try to get a better understanding of what AZ is dealing with.

I agree, I think Al, Hugo, Felipe, etc should try living on the border without their bodyguards or body armor.

the sad part is that 53% also feel that the bill is likely to infringe on civil liberties and support it anyway

Any law can be misused or abused. Any.
Clueless leftists and minority lobbyists may indeed want to rid us of all laws with that in mind, because hypothetical, it-hasn’t-happened-yet infringement of a criminal’s rights (illegal aliens ARE criminals, since being in this country illegally is a crime) is far more important to safety guard against than the safety of Arizona citizens, which becomes more precarious by the day.
Phoenix, AZ is the Number 1 city in the United States for Mexican kidnappings (and often, subsequent murders), which is a booming billion-dollar business for lawless illegal aliens. Drug war violence is spilling into border towns from Mexico – Juarez and Monterrey are especially deadly now, and tourists are discouraged from going there. The powerful Mexican drug lords are killing the Mexican army. A billion-dollar human smuggling ring, using shuttle vans driving from the Mexico border or Tucson to Phoenix, AZ was busted by ICE last week.
This new law is written well (conservative talk show host and attorney Mark Levin analyzed it and commended it for how it was written). The law mimics the already existing 70-year-old federal law on illegal immigration – it does not grant the AZ police authority to question anyone with dark skin, but that is what Team Obama and other Democrats want the Hispanic communities to believe.
Those objecting to this law are either horrifically ill-informed, have no faith in our honorable police officers, are stupid, or have a self-serving interest in keeping illegal aliens protected and our borders unprotected.
Read the law… the proof is in the pudding.

I can’t tell you how glad I am that AZ put this squarely in their face ClassicFilm. My only worry is what are they doing right now behind our backs as we are distracted by this. They should never have looked the other way for so long, but they did. The feds are reaping what they have sown. Shut the borders down. It’s simple. Send those packing who refuse to work. Stop the entitlements and watch, there will be NO need to check any papers. The US has made them comfortable. If the DOJ thinks this is stupid, I have to ask what the DOJ plans to do. This isn’t just about money. There is so much more that is involved.
We have backlogged courts because of the drug business. I’ve witnessed time and again requests for money to prosecute these cases which we never receive. There is only so much that the citizens can take. For anyone who doesn’t understand: this is the same fed law, they only need to enforce it.
