UPDATE: Now Shirley is saying that the White House forced her to resign.
The White House said that they have nothing to do with this.
The difficult question which has not been asked is, did Shirley Sherrod resign so quickly because the circumstances of her hiring and the lawsuit settlement with her organization that preceded it might expose some unpleasant truths about her possible and possibly sanctioned conflicts of interest?
Video Shows USDA Official Saying She Didn’t Give ‘Full Force’ of Help to White Farmer.
Days after the NAACP clashed with Tea Party members over allegations of racism, a video has surfaced showing an Agriculture Department official regaling an NAACP audience with a story about how she withheld help to a white farmer facing bankruptcy — video that now has forced the official to resign.
Shirley Sherrod, the department’s Georgia director of Rural Development, is shown in the clip describing “the first time I was faced with having to help a white farmer save his farm.” Sherrod, who is black, claimed the farmer took a long time trying to show he was “superior” to her. The audience laughed as she described how she determined his fate.
“He had to come to me for help. What he didn’t know while he was taking all that time trying to show me he was superior to me was I was trying to decide just how much help I was going to give him,” she said. “I was struggling with the fact that so many black people have lost their farmland and here I was faced with having to help a white person save their land — so I didn’t give him the full force of what I could do. I did enough.”
Good. Let’s get serious and clean house. Shirley is NOT the only one. How many government employees are also Brown Berets?
July 19, 2010 at 11:08 pm
I just saw the Brown Beret video earlier and it just burned my ass. Honestly, I couldn’t believe that the cops just sat there and did nothing. They interrupted a peaceful protest and tried to incite a fight. It didn’t work because those protesting had enough sense to bring a camera and keep their cool. Notice how she tried to lie to the cop and say that the guy with the camera “touched” her. It’s good to have film.

The camera seems to keep people in check, and that is good.

I’ve got a feeling this is only the beginning.
The NAACP probably never guessed that their irresponsible act of “throwing one more (racist) shrimp on the barbie” was going to result in this much of a backlash. And from what I’ve heard, the USDA’s hidden history of this type of discrimination is now going to become an open book. Should be good summer reading

What goes around, comes around.
The barbie is searing them.

it’s interesting that the reformed Brown Berets kept the faux-military attire yet they claim to be against violence. here is a close up of the patch on the beret: crossed bayoneted rifles over a beret-crowned cross under the blazon La Causa

Hypocrites.
July 20, 2010 at 9:53 am
Would you not agree that perhaps the message from this incident is that the power has shifted away from the MSM to the so-called ‘alternative media’, which is now pretty much the standard by which journalism is now judged?
After all, by the time the six o’clock news rolled around yesterday, this thing had already been blown wide open and people were … well, let’s just say, jaws were dragging the ground…
On the other hand, journalism, albeit good, bad or indifferent, has been turned into a sport of sorts created intentionally in order to distract people from the absolutely unmistakable theft taking place by what can otherwise be known as thugs. I am convinced that politicians love this stuff. They seek out these kind of boneheads like that Van Jones dufus. Throwing them under the bus is a great distraction…
Of course, just sayin’ is all, ya know…
July 20, 2010 at 1:49 pm
It’s all okay. Perhaps, with enough info out people will begin to get to work and sift through the rubble. People have been very accustomed to being given their news. Yes, it might be another distraction and everyone should be able to filter through them. Whatever happened to being curious in this country? Everyone should want to know what is happening in this country.
July 20, 2010 at 11:55 am
oilsoc understands that his reputation as a racist is growing by leaps and bounds. Hence, adios Shirley.
I hope everyone understands that under the obama-Commie govt, the biggest employer will be the govt, and yon Shirley is the face of those who will be given the plum jobs and those handling your obamacare claims.
July 20, 2010 at 1:52 pm
Shirley is collateral damage imo. She did this a long time ago without believing that it would ever bite her. Too bad. If people would own what they do, they might think twice about their actions.
Quite frankly, I think that the NAACP is as full of racist crap as LULAC. Divide and conquer.
July 20, 2010 at 1:12 pm
it appears now that Sherrod’s actions took place 24 years ago and that in fact she felt guilty for her sentiments and subsequently worked with the farmer and his wife for over 2 years and helped to save their farm: the couple and she are now friends. the tape is another Breitbart edit job.
July 20, 2010 at 1:46 pm
The reason for the tape being released was to show how the NAACP propagates racism. Breitbart’s tape stands. The woman may have had second thoughts later, but that doesn’t change what she did and the lauding that took place.
July 20, 2010 at 1:56 pm
Honestly Nom, I could care less if they are friends now. When I interact with anyone, I treat them in the same manner that I wish to be treated.
Imagine what life would be like if every human regardless of race, color or creed owned their actions. The amount of thought prior to acting would probably make this world a better place to live.
July 20, 2010 at 7:16 pm
I don’t have a problem with her regarding the particular white farmer: 24 years ago is a long time and she made amends.
I would have some concern that there were perhaps more white farmers who she failed to assist properly, and have no problem if she is investigated on this matter or were fired for it should there be any evidence she did so.
My real problem with Sherrod is the lawsuit: that appears extremely suspect.
July 21, 2010 at 12:51 am
What appears suspect is for a government employee to have a side business bilking the govt teat.
July 21, 2010 at 6:47 am
Nom, Sherrod is the problem. It is not her color, it is the way that she conducted business and that includes that lawsuit. BTW, there was a change of tape in the full version at 21 min mark. There was no edit. I find all of the NAACP’s bs racist crying very suspect. Their President, Ben Jealous was in attendance on that day during her speech. Why the hypocrisy? BECAUSE THE WINDS HAVE SHIFTED. I really detest these people.
July 21, 2010 at 8:11 am
the original tape is cut to leave a false impression: that is imo lying.
I agree her business practices re- the lawsuit look very bad and expect she will be charged with criminal offense: no problem there at all for me, I like to see criminals prosecuted and jailed.
I haven’t done enough research into the NAACP to have an informed opinion on it. Whether the NAACP is anything more than a financial machine for its own continuance I couldn’t say: jmo a great many political organizations and ngos are thus and it would not overly surprise me to find the NAACP among them.
I do believe that racism is a strong ongoing problem in the areas of education (poorer quality teachers in predominently minority areas & grade inflation rather than accountability on poorly performing students disproportionately gives black, hispanic and native american minorities inadequate preparation for higher education), failure to gain wage parity for equal work, failure to achieve social parity without conforming to majority (white) opinion, and harsher sentencing for criminal offenses.
All the race baiting and reverse race-baiting does not alter my opinion, which is based upon analysis of facts and not the commentary of politicos and talking heads.
July 21, 2010 at 10:41 am
Truth beknown, Sherrod got stuck in the crossfire. I don’t know what is in her heart, but I do know what bs has been smeared as “racisim” and I am tired of it. If people wish to be divided, they will be conquered. That is a lesson that should have been learned long ago.
I think what really pisses me off is the president of the NAACP.
Ben Jealous, that rat bastard knew that there was a piece of the puzzle mia when he threw her under the bus (she is a female afterall).
Asswipe should look in the mirror when he talks about the reaction from the audience since he was there as well. What a jerk!
July 20, 2010 at 2:20 pm
Quite frankly, I would like these same questions answered. Seems to me that Ms. Sherrod is a bit more sketchy than I originally thought.
* Was Ms. Sherrod’s USDA appointment an unspoken condition of her organization’s settlement?
* How much “debt forgiveness” is involved in USDA’s settlement with New Communities?
* Why were the Sherrods so deserving of a combined $300,000 in “pain and suffering” payments — amounts that far exceed the average payout thus far to everyone else? ($1.15 billion divided by 16,000 is about $72,000)?
* Given that New Communities wound down its operations so long ago (it appears that this occurred sometime during the late 1980s), what is really being done with that $13 million in settlement money?
* Did Shirley Sherrod resign so quickly because the circumstances of her hiring and the lawsuit settlement with her organization that preceded it might expose some unpleasant truths about her possible and possibly sanctioned conflicts of interest?
* Is USDA worried about the exposure of possible waste, fraud, and abuse in its handling of Pigford?
* Did USDA also dispatch Sherrod hastily because her continued presence, even for another day, might have gotten in the way of settling Pigford matters quickly?
July 20, 2010 at 3:18 pm
Wow. Just wow. This whole thing was a set up to throw her sorry ass under the same old tired bus that all the rest of the crooks get thrown under in what is nothing short of a way to cover over their checkered past…
It’s all smoke and mirrors – that’s all this stuff is. It’s just one sorry race game after another, which is just a distraction from the criminal behavior that is rampant in this so-called government…
Of course, just sayin’ is all, ya know…
July 20, 2010 at 4:07 pm
yup
July 20, 2010 at 8:44 pm
Wow is right, McN.
As soon as she said that her remarks were “taken out of context,” I knew the whole thing was a sack of crap, to be laid on with a trowel. You’ve got her and the USDA dead to rights. As Uncle Baruch said about this post over at DE, the woman is a race hustler.
July 21, 2010 at 12:51 am
She is that and more. She is a thief.
July 20, 2010 at 3:10 pm
That video was quite amusing – Apparently the young lady is not familiar with the history of Mexico. Unless she is of Aztec or Mayan full blood, which judging by a superficial look, she is not, then she is the progeny of Spanish Conquistadores – meaning she’s not brown, although she definitely is latina. Telling American’s to go back to Europe? Quite a bit of hypocrisy, cause the Conquistadores were just as violent and genocidal in South America, and the Northern Europeans were in North American. Obama sure unleashed the dogs of hell the first time he played the racist card.
July 20, 2010 at 4:11 pm
HT, I am Hispanic and we have a word to describe this dumbbutt. It is not a nice word. The problem is that she never learned squat in school. I know, because I sat next to many of these embarrassments in school.
July 20, 2010 at 8:40 pm
Not to worry, McN. Bill Ayers, the archtect of current US educational philosophy, says all we have to teach is social –stce, whatever the hell tht means, besides kissing minority butt instead of educating minorities so they can have a better life,
July 21, 2010 at 12:52 am
You can lead the horse to water but you can’t make it drink. Where has all of this bilingual education gotten the Hispanics? NOWHERE…it has failed. They are masters of zip.
July 21, 2010 at 12:53 am
The worst part of all of this is that those who were led to the bilingual path were led by their own race hustlers that made a killing developing bs bilingual teaching methodologies. Screwed by our very own, isn’t that the way it usually goes?
