Learning is not an option.
Horrible News from The AP. Al Sharpton is going to host a new TV series on education.
The Rev. Al Sharpton will host a weekly syndicated TV program focusing on education. ESH Holdings, a new minority-owned multimedia company, says the half-hour news and information magazine, called “Education SuperHighway,” will target parents, educators and students.
Hosted by the well-known civil rights leader, the show will provide a forum for discussing educational issues, with political, business and social leaders taking part.
“Education SuperHighway” will debut on Oct. 10 in more than 160 U.S. markets. It will be taped in New York and Los Angeles.
Will we be discussing Tawana Brawley? Will they use spellcheck? This district did not.
Billboard spelling error creates embarrassment. WSBT. Mishawaka, Indiana. Looks like at least one person in South Bend didn’t use Spell Check.
South Bend public schools are not looking too favorably right now. Especially if those who proofed the work before it went up, and after it was plastered for all to see, were graduates or employees of the system.

Sharpton doing a show on education is so appalling it’s kind of funny.
We had a guy come speak at our school who was just marvelous. Funny, too. He talked about how everybody is trying to “fix” education in this country and blaming the government, blaming video games, blaming parents, blaming teachers. He said you know who is really responsible for your own success in the world? You are!
What was really interesting is that nobody ever says that to kids now days. Half of them don’t even realize that they are in control of their own destiny. All they ever hear is how somebody’s done them wrong, too much TV, economic inequality, bad parents, crappy schools…so they don’t have to succeed, the deck has been stacked against them, and it’s not their responsibility anyway. Well it is their responsibility and they will be the ones who suffer if they don’t figure that out and rise to the challenge.

There is something coming out about the teacher unions and how they are at the core of this pc crap.
I got tired of teaching. Quite frankly, I found the attitude that you write about appalling. Education is an opportunity. It has become a PC entitlement program. I have noticed that the libraries are used less now. It is up to the parents as well. The schools are not the nanny. I see a lot of selfishness on the part of parents. They don’t want to deal with what they have spawned because they are too busy. I know what busy. It’s about the “me” factor and it is not cool to dump the kids on a system that they are told is bad. It works both ways and I am happy that someone had the courage to enlighten the group. You are so lucky.

Way back in the stone age I went to a high school that was not the best- and we were told by our parents that it was up to US to absorb all we could- and that is what we did. If we had a crappy teacher in one grade- tough- we still had to know the material to pass and move to the next class in the progression. Period!
