Shoot, I’m surprised it didn’t end up on Ebay.
U.S. federal officials also would not disclose the exact address on Craddock Avenue where the crash occurred.
Depending on the exact point of impact, the drone might have been from a third of a mile to a half-mile inside the United States.
Garcia lives less than a half-mile from the border.”I feel pretty safe, I guess,” Garcia said. “If anybody crosses over, they are just making tracks to get farther north. They don’t stop here.”

Mexico has drones? Who knew?
December 17, 2010 at 10:04 am
Uh huh. Now the question is who controls them? The Mexican government or the cartels?
December 17, 2010 at 10:57 am
one imagines they originated from here: the question is did we allow them to purchase the drones or give them to the mexican government outright?

wellwhaddyaknow: it looks like the drone came from Israel
December 17, 2010 at 9:21 pm
Mexico doesn’t need to to go Israel Nom, they can get them from us.

of course there’s also always this: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-07-20/general-atomics-gains-approval-to-sell-predator-drones-to-pakistan-egypt.html

“Mexico doesn’t need to to go Israel Nom, they can get them from us.”
Well that was my first thought (“one imagines they originated from here”), but it says in the link that they planned to purchase 22 mil worth of military equip including drones from Israel in 2009.
“According to http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com in 2009, Aeronautics Defense Systems of Yavneh, Israel, planned to sell Mexico’s federal police over $22 million worth of its Skystar 300 surveillance aerostats and small Orbiter UAVs.”

Guess via who?

This is an Israeli drone designed and manufactured by Israelis. While it’s certainly possible Mexico obtained their equipment from the US, there’s no compelling reason to assume a middleman: Israel sells to many markets (eg Russia used the Skystar 300 for a G8 conference a few years back); they are very advanced in weapon and surveillance tech, among the best in the world.

The results of the poll so far are interesting:
Should Mexico have drones on the border?
Yes, as long as it helps fight drug/human smugglers.
71.88 %
Yes, if the U.S. has them why not Mexico.
12.33 %
No, neither country should be able to snoop on each other.
2.134 %
No, there is potential for abuse.
10.92 %
Have not made up my mind.
2.713 %

It’s all too weird.
December 17, 2010 at 11:16 am
WHAT?????
“”We are collecting data about the crash. We don’t have the aircraft because it was returned to its owner,” said Keith Holloway, spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board, which investigates aircraft crashes in the United States and in other countries that request its help.”
Returned to it’s owner??? WTF????
December 17, 2010 at 11:45 am
Mexican government = drug cartels.
Our borders are SAFE says Janet.
I also think that Mexico is paying back loans. What better way to pay than to use the cartel’s $$$.
December 17, 2010 at 11:48 am
I would have put it up for sale on Ebay. That would attract attention, now wouldn’t it?
December 17, 2010 at 2:42 pm
maybe the kind this guy got: http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2010/10/fbi-tracking-device/all/1
December 17, 2010 at 1:47 pm
Maybe they use the drones to deliver their drugs. Kinda like air-express. I’m sure they were aiming for the White House since Obama asked for some crack to be in his Christmas stocking this year instead of the usual pot.

191 mexican inmates escape from Nuevo Laredor jail: guards apparently just let them walk right out.
December 17, 2010 at 2:22 pm
Nuevo Laredo, sorry
December 17, 2010 at 3:18 pm
Sure why not Nom…they do this a Christmas often. Not unusual. The guards get their Christmas money and the prisoners walk. I’m dead serious…it happens.
December 17, 2010 at 5:57 pm
why am I not surprised?
December 17, 2010 at 7:06 pm
So Mr. Garcia says they don’t bother him, so who cares. Hey, that’a the spirit, Mr. G.
December 18, 2010 at 8:34 am
The U.S. is obviously quite in on the action. Otherwise, there would have been a spectacular outrage at the incursion across international boundries. They probably have been doing it for quite some time, and both the MX and US do not want anyone nosying in on their little gambit of snooping.

heck of a job, drone boy
December 18, 2010 at 6:11 pm
This is icing for the cake Nom. The sad truth is that Mexico is a narcostate. Atleast 30 people a day are murdered in Juarez daily. Tell me that is a war that we should ignore?
December 18, 2010 at 6:43 pm
it’s rally awful. unfortunately one hasn’t a clue how to better the situation as removing the government and cartels doesn’t seem possible for the mexican citizens
any more than removing our own oligarchs is here; one is certain the day when our nation looks just the same is nearer than anyone wants to believeDecember 19, 2010 at 6:08 pm
The attitude toward the murdered women of Juarez is not any different that what Sharia does. It’s sick.
December 19, 2010 at 6:51 pm
one doesn’t overlook the overwhelming similarity
