1,500 teachers paid to do union business instead of teach. Anyone wonder why?
“In these tight fiscal times, it defies common sense to pay two different people to do one job,” said Dick Dadey, executive director of Citizens Union, a government watchdog. “It’s a waste of money.”
That $9 million would cover the salaries of 198 new teachers at the current annual $45,530 starting pay

I feel bad for teachers who have genuine concerns about their unions and how they’ve impacted kids and education, but they are pretty much powerless to speak up about it. In some states it’s practically a condition of employment that you belong to a union and you have to pay dues regardless. When the whole thing is mandatory, how can you hold your union accountable?
I’ve read a lot of comments from teachers on the internet who want to talk about some problems with their unions, but they are just lambasted by everyone else for not being pro-union, for hating kids, etc, etc.
What really drives me crazy about the current leftist politics is that they won’t let people speak for themselves. If you’re a teacher, they’ll speak for you. If you’re a black person, they’ll speak for you, and if you even dare to contradict the words they’ve put in your mouth, they attack you.
I know two teachers in my state who left teaching because they got real tired of always having to serve the union, rather than having the union serve them. They felt like they couldn’t work for the kids or the school district, or even the taxpayers, because they had to work for the union first.

I hear you yttik. I feel that the unions are more damaging than anything else. The scare tactics that they use to empower themselves with are nothing short of extortion. It is gross. I come from a family of teachers. The unions are a disgrace. When you look at how top heavy unions have become, you begin to realize who has the power.
Never have words been so true.

At the same time that teachers dominate educatin, children are learing less and less, and are poorly socialized toboot..
I’ve never seen a study and the relationship between teacher unionization and student performance, but I have a twenty that says the former ha been the chief cause of the latter.

It’s only a job Mary. It’s no longer an art.
