Barack Obama to propose health care cuts.
Aides said that in a major speech on Wednesday the US president will lay out plans that will include reform of Medicare and Medicaid, the major subsidised health care schemes that are among the main causes of the country’s $14.25 trillion (£8.7 trillion) national debt.
“The president will be laying out his approach to long-term deficit reduction,” said David Plouffe, a senior adviser at the White House, adding that the president would call on both sides to compromise.
“If we are going to make progress the parties are going to have to come together to find common ground,” he said.
Mr Obama was last week forced into accepting $38.5 billion (£23.5 billion) in cuts demanded by Republicans for other types of spending in order to secure a last minute deal to keep the government running for the rest of the financial year.
Shocking? No, Barack doesn’t care for the elderly. Next up, blame someone else.
April 10, 2011 at 9:28 pm
Well, yet another Wednesday I’ll be working late so I don’t have to hear his voice. I’ll have to come here or run over to UW to get the skinny on yet another of his speeches.

leslie, how lucky you are! The man had to get his human adoration fix by going to the Lincoln Memorial unannounced.

AARP is an insurance agency and should be treated as such. They don’t give a rat’s rear about people, just their pocketbooks.
April 11, 2011 at 6:01 am
“But a number of prominent Republican leaders are still upset that AARP supported Obamacare. And it’s been made clear already that AARP isn’t going to sign on for any major cuts or restructuring in Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security if seniors view it as endangering the benefits they receive or those still to come to their grandchildren. So now the GOP is considering taking the whip to them….”

They did a huge disservice to this country wca. A lot ob people believe AARP. Shame on them. They may back off of any more endorsements for now, but make no mistake they are not friends of the elderly.
April 11, 2011 at 6:21 am
well only est. 50,000 members quit AARP in protest after the Obamacare endorsement…I suppose many more might quit if there is an investigation…
April 11, 2011 at 6:28 am
I would hope so wca, but as with all insurance companies even if they die off they will re emerge under a different name. It’s gross. It’s a bit like these “other” Medicare coverage insurers. They are in business to make money not to take care of anyone.
April 11, 2011 at 8:30 am
they did that disservice to the elderly a long time ago when they supported the “Medicare reform” bill during the Bush administration. I and my entire over-50 family (several including parents, sibs, their spouses, cousins, etc) left AARP at that time and let them know why.
I’ve never turned back and neither has AARP. They are slime.

More doom from Ace of Spades…See a pattern here?
“Via Insty comes this LAT op-ed (yeah, I know, bear with me) about the latest liberal idea for making the economy more “fair”: ending Roth IRA’s. I won’t sport with your intelligence by getting into the argument — it’s profoundly dumb — but it does provide yet another example of the liberal belief that all money belongs to the government by default; the only question is how much they let you keep.” – ASHQ

OK this cracked me up….lol…
“Thus the war on “the rich”. (And the definition of “rich” keeps sliding downward, have you noticed? Pretty soon that piss-smelling bum down by the bus-stop will be considered “rich” because he has an actual la-di-dah belt to hold up his pants rather than a frayed length of clothesline like the rest of us.)…” – Monty,ASHQ

That is good.
Half of the country is on entitlement. There will come a time when they will also be labeled “rich.”

Once entitled, how do you get them back into the work field?
http://www.france24.com/en/20110410-voters-referendum-no-icesave-compensation-uk-netherlands-bank-collapse-iceland
This is pathetic, they get bailed and now they don’t want to repay?
April 11, 2011 at 6:51 am
yeah they won’t pay cause they blame the british banks for over-loaning….
sound familiar?
Banks in this country were forced by law ( democrats ) to lower lending standards to make housing fair ( and yes there was some “predatory” lending but it’s complicated…)
Still the lefty meme is it’s all the banks fault cause the victims can’t do simple math or read and comprehend a contract & the victims deserved a house dammit cause that’s he American Dream…
Children…
But hey! Let’s not discuss morals or values cause those are “ideas” that are steeped in the outdated and mostly white judeo-christian religion which has nuthin’ to do with the founding fathers cause Jefferson was an atheist, Jesus was a secret muslim and cause Lincoln & MLK who were both “Democrats” say so…

MEANWHILE….
The new Chinese aristocracy can buy up realestate…set up anchorbaby clinics…send their kids to school….and exploit our resources for the peasants running their factories back in the motherland…
Smart strategy…as we are owned…
( Not anti-chinese so to speak but Trump is right…)
this is dangerously embarrassing….just sayin’
April 11, 2011 at 6:36 am
“They finally found out the home was being used as a maternity center for Chinese mothers paying thousands of dollars to give birth in the United States so their children would automatically gain citizenship, city officials said.
The discovery of the center where women stayed before and after delivering their babies at local hospitals was unusual and a possible sign that birthright citizenship is being exploited as a lucrative business, an immigration activist said.
“What this could suggest is … they’re taking it to the next step,” said Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, which advocates stricter limits on immigration. “Whoever is organizing this type of operation is buying or leasing a home to become a clearing house. That’s a serious problem.”

I mean how many Chinese are there? squeezed from 2 sides…Mexico and China….sheeesh!
April 11, 2011 at 7:11 pm
I was going to post this a few days ago. I’m just burned out on how our government allows this.
April 11, 2011 at 10:17 am
well I detest the chinese government but Trump is not remotely correct: their treasury purchases are pretty much the only thing keeping our nation afloat, and for thanks, the Fed devaluated the dollar which screwed them big.
what has sunk our economy is us (and by “us” I mean our own personal mostly US born oligarchs) not the chinese.
Trump has taken a sh#tload of bailouts himself courtesy of the ordinary not rich taxpayer: he is a beneficiary of the oligarchic system which is precisely why he backs it. What do you think his real estate would be worth without the Fed Res?

I simply call him a$$hat #2. The first was W. And BHO is just an extension of W.

Yes, he certainly functions as a legacy of the past leslie.

Here is the roll call vote for the republican’s plan to end all medicare: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2011/roll277.xml
235 repubs are for ending it. 4 repubs are not for ending it. No dems were for ending Medicare, except perhaps for 4 who did not vote, including Giffords.
if this is not enough to make one refuse to vote for any repub candidate, one does not know what is.
April 18, 2011 at 3:51 am
and no, I’m not suggesting I think the dems would actually protect Medicare either.
April 18, 2011 at 6:52 am
I just want to know where the money went? Borrowed means that it was supposed to have been replaced.
April 18, 2011 at 6:51 am
They are trying to go to a voucher program which doesn’t end Medicare. It changes the arrangement. I am not sure about vouchers Nom, but it does place the responsibility of choosing on one’s self which I think is good. The problem is that society in general doesn’t like to be held accountable for their choices.
