U.S. Companies Shrink Packages as Food Prices Rise.
U.S. food prices have been rising in the last year, but it seems the growth is only just beginning. A sharp jump in commodities’ prices this year will soon result in sticker shock for American consumers.
Large food companies have recently announced that they will raise the prices they charge grocery retailers for commodities-based products. For example, a chocolate bar will cost more soon: Hershey last week announced a 10% increase for most of its confectionery goods.
Just in case you hadn’t noticed.

So the one pound can of coffee that is now 13 oz will become what? 10 oz? Or an even half pound?
But there is no inflation doncha know?
What else can I grow? Oh wait- better check on that new food “safety” law and see if growing my own food is now illegal.

Indeed it is PMM. Best not to wear your eyeglasses to the grocery store.

Dry catfood used to come in 20 lb bags, then it shrank to 18 lb then 16 lb now it is often as low as 14lb and usually only 15lb. To even find a bag that is larger one must go to the discount club stores, where the 18 lb bag I used to buy for $7.99 is now $13.99.
Canned catfood used to come in 7 1/2 oz cans, probably down from 8 oz, then they shrank to 6 1/2 oz now they are at 5 1/2 oz. The 6 1/2 cans cost 25c apiece just a few years ago, now the 5 1/2 oz are 58c a can.
God only knows if all the ingredients come from the US, one imagines not, and still more just exactly what the ingredients are. The quality is so low now as to be unbelievable: I have had raccoons pass on some of the name brand regular catfood I have purchased.

I use carrots, apples, pecans, whatever I have that is seasonal. I augment everything that the animals eat. Yes, the cat food is getting worse.
