World’s oldest light bulb 110 years old in Livermore.
On June 18, the world’s oldest-known working light bulb reaches another milestone, and will begin its 110th year of operation.
The bulb holds the Guinness World Record, and has been illuminating local fire stations in Livermore, California since 1901, the year Queen Victoria died.
Lynn Owens, who heads the light bulb’s centennial committee, told Time.com: ‘Nobody knows how it’s possible. It is a 60-watt bulb and it’s only turned on for about four watts, but nobody knows why it keeps burning.
‘We’ve had scientists from all over the country look at this light bulb’.

Imagine that! Not surprised though- back then things were built to LAST. No planned obsolescence.

Well now we know the world record for a light bulb……because come January 2012 that bulb is outlawed and must be extinguished. Personally I can’t believe California still has it glowing……gee California is slipping I tell you.
Just kidding…..you know I am, that’s really cool…..nope they sure don’t make things like they used to.
I hate the CFL bulbs. We’re slowly switching over to LED, but I have a small supply of regular bulbs too. I like the LED lights, they are just so damn expensive. We have completed about a third of our house with LED and we definitely notice a difference on the electric bill. Supposedly the average consumer saves $50 per year per bulb replaced with an LED. I think that’s a stretch because I wouldn’t have an electric bill if that was the case, LOL! Our bills are getting lower though. We invest in one LED per pay check….man do we know how to party!!!
Oh, but not LED’s are created equal be sure to check the lumens produced on any you are considering and compare that to the bulb you’re replacing.

Well Somebody, China must make money off of us. It’s not enough that we lent them the money that we are borrowing. We must also become their working class.

You know, they want to make those illegal in California. They want everyone to have lovely mercury filled bulbs. Great around kids, because you know kids never break light bulbs.

Hey, CFC bulbs are loaded with mercury?
THAT IS NOT GREEN!!!!!!!!!
Just think of having one of those mercury filled CFC bulbs exploding in your house or in your face!?!?!!!!!
Have you seen all those recent articles in the past month about how “green cars” cause more overall pollution than gasoline fueled, and how other “green” endeavors also end of creating more pollution? BUT THEY SURE DO LINE SOME PEOPLE’S POCKETS WITH LOTS OF GREEN MONEY! AL GORE, I’M LOOKING AT YOU TOO!
LOL
