City-Dwelling Landowners Get Paid Millions Not to Farm Their Secondary Estates.
The government paid millions of dollars last year in farm subsidies to wealthy city-dwellers – many of them receiving taxpayer dollars not to farm their rural country estates, according to a new report by the Environmental Working Group.
Enough.

“It is time this to end,” Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., told ABC News. “The more you find out about this government, the more absurd it is.”
YEP!
I think Gov. Perry is running.

I agree the subsidies to the wealthy not to farm ought to end, and farm subsidies to all megafarms even that produce ought to end.
But the sudden desire of the repubs to end farm subsidies (often a campaign promise that they would continue) is just one more step in the consolidation of the ag industry into the hands of a few
see, fascism, eg. Obananistan: it will drive most small farms under. Time will show that they mean only to end the subsidies to the small farmers: there will be some loophole that enables the wealthy to continue receiving corporate welfare. It isn’t any accident that a substantial portion of ag subsidies go to the corn farms of Iowa, the first state to vote. They are not going to do anything that intereferes with the flow of money into their campaigns, bet on it. The elimination of all competition is the purpose, not some noble sounding bs about fairness. Because these clowns don’t believe in fairness, just more for them.Just read BHO’s latest

btw I do not suggest the dems are any more ethical or do not intend equally to shaft the few ordinary farmers left: I highlight repubs because this is part of their 2012 campaign platform. I do not suggest dems as an alternative!

The fact that the repubs didn’t raise it when they were in power – even though this issue was alive and well at that time, too – says it all. They are ALL scum. If the Dems thought it would help them, they’d have raised the issue first.

I think I’m going to ask the government to fund me for not planting a vegetable garden in my backyard this year.

I think I will, too, Nunly. (I don’t even have a back yard, but who’s to know. Right?)

I know someone who is actually trying to do something good with his country space. His response to all of this nonsense was to get rid of the tax break for the loss. We have made this possible.
