Krauthammer makes me laugh. His assessment of teh won is correct. If Barack talks, the markets tank. I wish Barack would take the hint and shut up, stop the speeches.
Even Der Spiegel is calling Barack a “disappointment.”
As America’s first black president, Barack Obama electrified an entire nation. But now that the nation is in crisis, he seems unable to connect with the people. He wanted to change America and restore its reputation in the world. But now his opponents are dictating the country’s political course.
He should NEVER have been elected based on the color of his skin. The community organizer had NO experience. Oh oh, more talk back to the White House.
IOTW pegged it.
When can we turn the tables? The romance is ovah.
The Founding Fathers rightly feared that the purer the democracy the more susceptible voters would be to the emotion of the moment and the demagogues who take advantage of it. Needless to say, we are democratic enough to get the politicians we deserve.
But debate is not dysfunction. Feel free to bemoan the fact that the American people are not automatons, but “getting stuff done” is not the charge of the Constitution. Neither is having a king, though sometimes you get the feeling that a lot of folks who believe in power as the wellspring of morality are really annoyed by that fact.

Woot! The challenger to primary BHO may have appeared: Mike Gravel, and a mighty fine choice he would be too, either to primary BHO or as president. He is not a tool. Gravel says if he gets the financial backing he will primary BHO, otherwise there’s no point in trying.
Send yer support and bucks his way if you want to see BHO primaried.

Read the link Nom and I will check him out. I will have to revisit and refresh myself on Cynthia McKinney as well. I seem to recall her dimly.

I voted for Cynthia McKinney (she was the Green party candidate) for president. She is no one’s tool. I don’t agree with every single position she takes, but she is a true representative of the people. She and Gravel are literally the only 2 politicians that I trust fairly well.
Unlike Hillary Clinton she did not cave.
August 10, 2011 at 11:34 am
Nom, she is from Georgia. I was thinking of Jackson from Houston, duh? I don’t care for McKinney. I don’t like her stance on Israel.
August 10, 2011 at 9:32 am
I doubt anything will happen. Boo is not going to allow it.
August 10, 2011 at 11:27 am
Gravel is a good guy: he needs broader recognition. He is libertarianish in some regards to even paleo-conservative in others, and could have broad support among various independent groups. He really is worth promoting. He can even win over lefties like me because he is not a weasel, he really says what he thinks; that’s what I like about McKinney too. I don’t think either are for sale.
If he can get the coverage, he could go far.

Mcnorman- I can’t tell you how many Obot blogs I checked out today to see what their spin on Obama is…not looking good! Of course, I’ve seen this movie before, they always come back to the one they loved.

Good Nunly. Perhaps the KoolAid is wearing off. The issue now is how to get our country back to what the founding fathers had in mind.

” having a king,”
McN,
There is nothing new unde the sun. About the time that King David of Biblical fame was yet a twinkle in his father’s eye, the Isralite’s, not content with being free, envied their neihbors’ monarchiesand asked God for a king. Though God tried to talk them out of it, they woulsn’t listen. The upshot was King Saul, who was pretty much a disaster.
The play was re-enacted in America, 2008. The upshot is the same.

I just finished watching the video about the special ops and seal team six. Wow. Of course Obama would never order an investigation because he knows that it would lead to him. To be honest, I think Obama is so totally clueless as to issues regarding military operations and protocol that he had no idea that giving a speech on national television about the seals that were killed in that tragic incident was not a good idea. We have political hacks and frat boys running this country and because of that, we are losing our best and finest in these wars.
As another example, look at the decision regarding the “Fast and Furious” gun mess that the MSM is doing its best to hide from the public. Obama knew about that, he even mentioned it in a speech at one time. But will anyone in this administration be held accountable? No way. So, again, those who we have securing our border are being killed by these guns and they will die in vain because no one will pay for this act of treason.
August 10, 2011 at 5:26 pm
There are so many questions coming up now. Timing is everything and this administration sucks when it comes to timing.

barry might have owned a GI Joe doll once, so I guess that would practically make him an expert on military operations…
But, I am guessing Barbie was more his speed…

Sorry, OT, but just wondering if everyone had seen this already.
“Years of liberal dogma have spawned a generation of amoral, uneducated, welfare dependent, brutalised youngsters” By Max Hastings
“A few weeks after the U.S. city of Detroit was ravaged by 1967 race riots in which 43 people died, I was shown around the wrecked areas by a black reporter named Joe Strickland.
“He said: ‘Don’t you believe all that stuff people here are giving media folk about how sorry they are about what happened. When they talk to each other, they say: “It was a great fire, man!” ’

“A primary school worker, postman, a young dad, a boy, 11, … all among the first looters fast-tracked through the courts
* Courts sit through the night to handle high volume of offenders
* Primary school worker admits burglary at Richer Sounds
* Duo who made off with trolley full of power tools admit theft

Disgusting Buttered. One of the first lessons of life that I learned is that we come into this world without anything. You leave the same way. Things do not bring happiness. They might provide brief respite, but they are worthless in the end.
August 10, 2011 at 11:58 pm
McN,
My grandfather used to say the same thing, adding, “You come into the world with your hand closed and go out with it opened.”
August 11, 2011 at 6:35 am
It’s a truthful statement. I’m sick of the entitlement mentality that is dominating our culture. I am always astounded by what people believe is their right. When looters take tvs, alcohol, sports clothing, that says a lot about what their priorities are. Destroying someone’s property is wrong.

August 10, 2011 at 6:04 pm
I like the idea of them being evicted from their “counsel housing”, maybe that will be enough of a deterrent from them pulling a stunt like this again. I also think that if a looter is found to be in the UK on a visa or something, they should be evicted from the country and sent back to their own country. It’s time to crack down on these slugs.

I have no problem with those people using the breaks. I have a very big problem with how those breaks were legislated. If I were in that same situation, I am sure that I would have to use a CPA to work the taxes for me. No one understands any of it anymore. It’s too complex. A flat tax would be fair. Everyone should pay something into the system.
August 11, 2011 at 8:49 am
They are thieves. A honest person would be ashamed to take advantage of such a wrongful law.
I agree taxes are too complex and everyone ought to pay; with the caveat that everyone ought also to be guaranteed a living wage for work done and women and minorities be paid equally to men and whites. In our present system of unequal pay and access a flat (regressive tax) is not fair.
August 11, 2011 at 12:11 pm
I understand what you are saying, but it doesn’t always apply. I have known a few individuals who don’t pay taxes one year, but get sunk the next because of business matters. It’s not cut and dry. I will surmise that many of those people who didn’t pay taxes for the year also had huge losses. No, they aren’t all thieves. I have written off $250,000 or more per year in loss. I still pay taxes. You better believe that I will take every single deduction that I am able to. No, I am not a millionaire. And now that there is no middle class left, I am also a serf.
August 11, 2011 at 1:51 pm
I don’t mind being a serf. I kinda like the fact that I’m doing something useful.
August 11, 2011 at 3:25 pm
I’m sure many of my ancestors came here as indentured servants, little better than serfs.
August 11, 2011 at 9:18 am
In some ways I understand where you’re coming from Nom. I used to be against a flat tax or a national sales tax. Until recently I felt that those taxes would be regressive and hurt the young and the poor.
I have changed my views and am willing to consider either. I think everyone needs to have some stake, some skin in the game. I agree it is criminal, at least to my mind, that millionaires get by without paying any taxes. The reason they do is because they bought loopholes from their friendly congress critter. That needs to stop now!
If our country is to survive we need a lot of changes. Changes to our political system to stop the thieving from both sides. We need to reform our tax structure and we need to do it quickly. All Americans need to have some skin in the game, if they don’t then we will soon reach a tipping point. In any society when the majority becomes entitled in some way through whatever means you end up with messes like Greece, the UK and many countries past and present.
How we get meaningful reform I don’t know because the “ruling class” is masterful at having the rest of us argue over stupid shit. That’s all Americans do anymore instead of concentrating on what unites us, what we have in common and common issues the vast majority are concerned about…….Somehow, some way it all gets deflected and we begin arguing over the same old stupid bullshit instead of uniting. The status quo continues and the can gets kicked down the road. The thieves continue to line their pockets and the pockets of their cronies……and the band plays on.
August 11, 2011 at 12:13 pm
I don’t see flat taxes as being unfair. From my vantage point, I see too many that should be paying into the system and don’t pay anything.
August 11, 2011 at 9:46 am
I am not for a welfare state, just a level playing field. I’d cooperate with a plan like Gravel’s, but only if it were implemented in its entirety: not just the parts that benefit the wealthy.
Until the corporate masters of our so-called representatives are gone, not merely temporarily put down, nothing will change. I want a complete societal overhaul starting from the top down. I have no more use for deadbeats than the next person. But a millionaire deadbeat $1,000,000/ 20,000 = 50 welfare deadbeats; and a plutocrat deadbeat = $100,000,000/ 20,000 = 5000 welfare deadbeats; and a billionaire plutocrat deadbeat $1,000,000,000/ 20,000 = 50,000 welfare deadbeats.
The majority of the super-wealthy do not produce jobs: their money comes from inheritance, capital gains, hedge funds and the like; they outsource whatever jobs they can to countries with no worker protections and attempt to remake the US in these nations’ filthy image; they are a net drain on jobs.
I am not talking about people, even lower level millionaires that actually produce (worthwhile) jobs; but the true rulers of society. Even in the top 1%, there’s a world of difference between $200,000-$1,000,000 much of which may be tied up in a valuable business and a billionaire parasite.
Unfortunately I see no way to implement meaningful reform, by peaceful measures at least, either; at least not in the long term. In the short term people may rebel by building cooperative systems at a neighborhood and local level to stave off some of the ruling class’ depredations; but the ruling class still owns the army, and if too much is kept from them, they’ll not hesitate to use it here at home just as they do abroad.
