About that southern border…

Five men of foreign descent were taken into custody early Wednesday morning after a break-in at the Bexar County Courthouse. Two of the men are on the FBI’s watch list, officials said.

Bexar County sheriff’s officials responded to a burglary alarm at 1 a.m. and found two men walking outside the building, sheriff’s officials said.

The men were arrested after sheriff’s officials determined they broke into the building through a door on the fourth floor, sheriff’s officials said. Three men were located inside the building and two were found outside near a recreational video.

Surveillance video showed the men walking into the building with an item in their hands, but they did not have the item when they walked out of the courthouse, sheriff’s officials said. Investigators have not said whether that item was recovered or what it may be.

Sheriff’s officials apprehended a third man who was inside a recreational vehicle in the parking lot of the building. The RV contained several documents and proof the men had been traveling across the country for some time, sheriff’s officials said.

The men told authorities they broke into the courthouse to get a scenic view of San Antonio, but investigators said the circumstances surrounding the break-in are suspicious.

Investigators said the men, all in their early 20s, are not U.S. citizens and told investigators they came into the country on Sept. 11, but it wasn’t clear what year they entered the country. Investigators also determined two of the three men are on the FBI’s watch list. Their names have not been released.

As of 7 a.m., the men had been charged with burglary, but sheriff’s officials said they would be interrogated by the FBI, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Joint Terrorist Task Force.

Authorities swept through the courthouse to look for explosives but nothing was found.

Sheriff’s officials said the courthouse will open at its normal hour on Wednesday.

In another development, the San Antonio Police Department Bomb Squad conducted a brief sweep of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center at 5:30 a.m., where a Geospatial Intelligence Convention is taking place. Up to 3,000 people of U.S. and foreign intelligence agencies are attending the event.

The ultimate sacrifice.

He asked his sister what she would would think about seeing her daughter that day. Stacie’s eyes popped open and she began looking around to find her.

Soon the nurses arrived with Dottie Mae and laid her right on her mother’s chest. The two stared into each other’s eyes for several minutes.

‘Nobody said anything, it got real quiet,’ Ray told NewsOk. ‘I told my sister, ‘You have done a beautiful thing.’ It was the perfect moment, that’s what I called it.’

Stacie died three days later. Her funeral was on September 14.

Her obituary on the Dudley Funeral Homes website reads: ‘Dottie Mae was the light of her life and her greatest accomplishment. She chose to give this baby life instead of taking treatment for herself.’

Dottie Mae now lives with Ray, his wife Jennifer and their four children in their Oklahoma City home

‘I think she’s a miracle. I just want to do right by her and do what Stacie asked,’ Jennifer said.

Then there is the other side of the coin, where life has little value.

Four adults with the mental capacity of 10-year-olds were found chained in a “dungeon” inside a house in Philadelphia, authorities said Saturday.

A janitor discovered the captives – three men and one woman – shackled to a water heater, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. They were found in a 15-by-15 room where they had been locked behind a steel door.

Authorities described them as malnourished and living in “deplorable” conditions. The room also had several buckets filled with urine and feces.

The four were being held by at least three people who were stealing their disability checks, authorities said.

The unidentified suspects – one woman and two men – have been arrested but not formally charged.

“We’re going to find every crime possible in the crime code to put on these individuals,” Philadelphia police spokesperson Lt. Ray Evers told the Inquirer.

Possible charges include kidnapping, conspiracy, and aggravated assault, he said.

The names of the victims have not been released, and it is unclear where they come from.

It is believed the four – who range in age from 29 to 41 – were originally from Texas. They were recently taken from Texas to West Palm Beach, Florida, where they lived for at least a year, before arriving in Philadelphia in Oct. 4. Authorities, however, are not sure if the victims actually lived in Texas, or if that was merely another place their kidnappers stashed them.

“We have no idea who some of these people are,” Evers said, but noted that because of their mental handicaps getting information from them has been difficult.

Steven Seagal appointed deputy sheriff of Texas border town.  I have always liked Segal.  He took care of his own hometown in Louisiana.

Mr Seagal, 59, was sworn-in as a Sheriff’s Deputy this week to go out on patrol in Hudspeth County, which runs along the Rio Grande east of El Paso.

I congratulate the man on taking action and not just mouthing off words.

After Mr  Seagal expressed interest in joining the Hudspeth County department, two members of the department travelled to Los Angeles to talk to the actor about his proposal and to make sure he was serious, said Rusty Fleming, a spokesman for the sheriff and one of the two who made the trip.

‘We were very quick to find out that he was not doing this for publicity,’ Mr Fleming said. ‘He wants to come down to the border and work and try to do his part.’

Hudspeth County, population 3,400, is on the front-line of border issues ranging from illegal immigration to drug gangs.

We’ll see how this all works out come January.

Con Ed seeks to boot Ground Zero mosque .

Con Ed has given the Ground Zero mosque an ultimatum: Pay the $1.7 million you owe in back rent, or we’ll terminate your lease and take back our property.

Con Ed and mosque developer Park51 have an unusual, uneasy alliance, sharing ownership of a site slated to be one of the most controversial projects in city history.

Will Con Ed back down?
