Lake Vostok: Russian scientists drilling into ‘alien’ Antarctic lake buried for 20m years.

Russian scientists have finally drilled down through four kilometres of Antarctic ice to a lake that has been sealed for the last 20 million years.
Veteran Antarctic researcher Professor John Priscu says that he expects to see ‘unique organisms’ in the lake.
But it was revealed this may not be the only surprise from sub-glacial Lake Vostok, a body of water as large as Lake Ontario.
Congrats to the team.

The older I get (and that’s petty old now), the more I’m convinced the the only news of real significance is that in medicine and science.

Well, it sure is more interesting.

Great. So they will get on with contaminating a pristine environment that has eluded us for 20 million years with tons of kerosene and freon used for the drilling. Sure it’s not going to harm anything in the lake since the pressure will keep it separated.
Just like that methane with the BP drilling catastrophe.I wish the Thing were really there waiting for them.“It’s very difficult… to convince others that the experiment is going to be clean, when you have essentially two miles of kerosene to cross before you get to the lake surface.”
F#ck them all, humans have no business ruining Antarctica like they do the rest of the world. Greedy f#cking bastards won’t be satisfied until we’re living on Mars right at home.

I disagree Nom. I think it is very interesting and I can’t wait to find out what that water will tell us.

Scientists discover that the water is wet.
News a 11.

Bwhahahahahahaaha DE. And it cost how much to find that out?

can’t really disagree now, here’s my proof.

I bet they find Barry’s real baby daddy – and maybe his real birth certificate! LOL

OMG, that is hilarious Buttered. I think it is really fascinating that the technology exists to do this today.
