UPDATE: Mailed pack one week earlier to let the psychiatrist at school.
…a search of the Campus Services’ mailroom turned up another package sent to the psychiatrist with Holmes’ name in the return address
He crossed the line into fantasy.
Sources also said detectives put bags over his hands to preserve any gunshot residue. Sources told CALL7 that Holmes began playing with the bags pretending they were two puppets.
The heartsick grief that his parents must feel now.
Neighbors and people close to the family said Arlene Holmes had confided to friends that she was very concerned about her son’s social isolation and had sought counseling for him years earlier. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject.
There were hints that James Holmes’s apparently withdrawn nature was in marked contrast with that of his younger sister, Chris. High school classmates and neighbors say James tended to want to answer only yes-or-no questions and never spoke out on his own.
via James Holmes, suspect in Colorado shooting, appears in court. No one can state that this guy was not smart. He garnered a $26,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. NIH is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. I believe that when all is said and done, this guy walked over the fantasy side. All too often those who are genius mentality are given a lot of leeway in their behavior. It’s written off as geek behavior. I don’t think anyone could have predicted what this guy did. Time will tell.

cops should have put a plastic bag over his head and tied a not.
if brainiac is lucky he’ll have plenty of time to analyze the dumb thing he did. Animals have more compassion.
July 24, 2012 at 4:36 pm
He’s nuts raging. There are are many who walk amongst us. Look at Cho from Virginia Tech. They can’t be forced into clinics or take their meds because they are adults. HIPPA won’t let you know about their illnesses unless the person allows it. I’m sure that the guy doesn’t have a clue as to what “compassion” means.

Jail is actually a pretty good place for a narcissist. They get to stew in the knowledge that they are literally now just a number.
July 24, 2012 at 7:53 pm
He belongs in a mental institution which is very similar to a jail except that you are forced to take your meds.

I said at 159′s the other night that society’s have always had crazies. The difference is that today they get celebrity status, albeit dark, and publicity to inspire copycat crimes. Lock him up and throw away the key.

make that 1539′s site

I don’t think this guy is going to get anything except a rubber room for the rest of his life Mary. Unfortunately, there will always be another Cho, Holmes, etc.
July 25, 2012 at 5:51 am
I don’t know what will happen with this guy. I’ve heard some talking heads basically saying an insanity defense is fairly tough in Colorado, but I’m certainly no expert.
You are correct that there will always be these kinds of cases. There are some mental illnesses that manifest around this age in early adulthood. I think you touched on something important above, about not having access to medical information and not being able to force someone into treatment because they are adults and the HIPPA laws. It is very difficult to actually force someone into treatment…….very difficult.
The laws particularly in some states can be almost insurmountable, let alone trying to work between a couple of states. None of us know what, if anything his family knew or tried to do. He may well have simply cut them off. Even if they suspected something getting him the help he needed would have been a very long and difficult battle. After all, you can’t tell a crazy person they’re crazy……because they’re crazy. It seems mental problems combined with the immaturity of youth can be quite volatile, most often ending in suicide and not this type of event.

Exactly Somebody. Who is to say that this person (who walked in a very gray area) wouldn’t have graduated, gotten his degree, started a job and then snapped at work in a few years? Mental illness is really strange. I have always believed that true genius borders on the brink of what most of us see as “crazy.” I think I would rather be dull.
Laws in each state are very different. You have nailed it. It is very difficult to get the proper help, and it is non existent to force an adult unless he has broken the law (and is mandated to seek treatment).
July 25, 2012 at 7:26 am
That is absolutely correct. We had issues with my eldest, nothing like this. He was on accutane and clearly exhibited symptoms of depression which is/was a known side effect……but he was 18 and an adult in the eyes of the law. (BTW I’m talking major symptoms, nothing trivial)
We couldn’t reason with him, we were just nags. He ticked off the doctor that prescribed the medicine and said doctor refused to see him or get involved. He refused to get professional help despite our pleas. Then he disappeared and we thought surely we had lost him forever. I was even called down to the morgue because a John Doe washed up in the river matching his description. It was absolute hell.
The whole episode had a serious impact on his life and I’ll always wonder what if……but we did the best we could. Eventually he hit bottom and thankfully came home. Also, thankfully he never committed any type of crime or anything he just screwed up his scholarship and such.
The Holmes family hasn’t talked to the media and none of us have any idea what they may have known or tried to do……..same goes for any number of people around him that might have suspected problems. All of them were powerless and most likely considered busybodies because he hadn’t broken any laws.
The system is so screwed up sometimes, huh? I guess the flip side of not having those protections would be people committed to asylums against their will and never heard from again…….which it wasn’t so long ago things like that happened. Still there has got to be a happy medium somehow.

You understand exactly what I mean. His parents couldn’t do anything about it. No one really understand until they have to deal with the system. How absolutely blessed you are that your son finally came home.
Something so simple (like an Rx drug) could wreak such havoc is what many do not understand. Rx drugs are for the masses in the middle. We are all different and we all respond differently to what we ingest.
Most people don’t realize that just because a body is physically 18, it is still not yet a mature body. We are all so different. Your family has lived through a horrific nightmare. I’m glad that the outcome was good. In time, the episode’s harm will lessen.
Another thing that people don’t understand is that the more legislation that we have (ObamaCare), the less chance that we will be able to take care of issues like this. I can’t begin to tell you how one word improperly placed in a health chart will cause an avalanche of Hell. ObamaCare is an acceleration of this.

Yes it is all very scary and trust me I know a thing or two about medical hell!!
I joke with my son about owing me a face lift and having the responsibility of paying for my hair dye for the rest of my life. He seems to think he’s been absolved and that responsibility rests with Little Somebody now given her unfortunate illness and the litany of complications. I told him nope, now he just gets to split the tab with his little sister, LOL!!
July 25, 2012 at 1:32 pm
Your family is blessed Somebody. I can’t imagine what Holme’s parents must be feeling.

I gave up on that lift long ago. hahaha
July 25, 2012 at 2:01 pm
Yea, I know what you mean. I don’t think I’ll ever get mine unless they pay the mortician to pull my face nice and tight.
I can hear my son now……..”Technically Mom, you didn’t specify when I was supposed to pay for the face lift. I slipped the guy a $20 and you definitely look younger lying there……rest in youthful peace!”
Technically is my son’s favorite word…….insert eyeroll
July 25, 2012 at 2:03 pm
Technically? ROFLMAO
Atleast he retained a sense of humor and can laugh. That is a sign of health.
Bogdonovich weighs in on the violence.

Oh yea, he’s fine now…….trust me……if baby mama can’t crack him, he’s fine.
She may crack me though, LMAO!!

I forgot about the baby mama. Life is great!

Another movie connection. Christian Bale was the star of American Psycho. His character was found at the end of the movie with a notebook with drawings of all his crimes.

Creepy, very creepy.
